Community Arts Programs at the U of S
AYAP (Aspiring Young Artists Program)
If you are an artzy kid or teen who oozes talent and who just can’t stop creating stuff take a look at this!
AYAP is committed to providing young artists with the tools to develop their visual art skills. The program goals are to encourage an interdisciplinary approach to creativity and to create a solid foundation for visual art techniques. This is intended to be a pre-preparatory program, which may result in a prior learning assessment for the certificate program. This program also encourages portfolio development in a fun and supportive environment. Each class will finish with a group art exhibition. The young artists will experiment with a variety of media to enable them to determine where they want to focus their attention. The program then branches off into areas of specialization so that students can concentrate on one area.
This 22 week course is once a week and runs
from September to April, set up as two terms, the final art
exhibition will be held at the end of the course in April.
Our Instructors vary according to the class. Each come with
talent, content expertise and the love of teaching kids and
teens!
Children’s courses are GST exempt

Maquettes for Drawing II and Polychrome Plasticene Relief II
Sometimes three-dimensional models are useful tools for making drawings.M.C. Escher
built elaborate models to aid with his drawings.Animators also use them as a basis for
their drawings. In the first five classes we will design and construct movable armatures for
small plasticene figures, then make drawings from various perspectives in a sequence of
poses. For the next five classes Polychrome Plasticene Relief II—This technique is familiar
from children’s book illustrations, such as those by Barbara Reid, but the completed work
can also be preserved behind glass and exhibited. Instruction includes design
considerations, colour mixing and a wide range of techniques for shaping component
parts, blending, texturing and creating a convincing pictorial space.
