About Community Arts Programs at the U of S

We are pleased to announce the official launch of the revised Community Arts Program. The information in these Calendar pages will introduce you to our 're-designed' visual arts courses for adults of all ages. We continue to offer all of our courses that you have become familiar with - and some new ones - to anyone who wishes to enroll for GENERAL INTEREST. For those students who wish to take a concentrated program of study, the opportunity is now available to register in USCAD - The University of Saskatchewan Certificate of Art and Design program. This program will take the student through a programmed series of courses that upon successful completion will result in the achievement of a University of Saskatchewan Certificate of Attendance. USCAD is a preparatory program designed:

  1. For those persons who do not wish to pursue a baccalaureate degree but who desire to enhance their skills in art and design and do not want to leave Saskatchewan to enroll in a college of art and design;
  2. As a preparatory program for high school graduates who are interested in pursuing education in the arts, but who do not feel ready for a baccalaureate degree until they build skills and confidence;
  3. For non-credit art students who would like formal acknowledgement for their studies and who may wish to eventually pursue degree credit studies.
  4. For non-credit art students who prefer structured learning environments where courses are linked and knowledge is enhanced through continuity.

We have also enhanced the visual arts program for children and teens. THE ASPIRING YOUNG ARTISTS PROGRAM - AYAP, will shift the successful Dramatically Different Art Program for Kids to a new level of learning opportunities. Designed as a pre-preparatory program, AYAP will kick up our previous teen and kids program offerings a notch.

Students will still be able to enroll for general interest in creative pursuit and summer camp fun or, like USCAD, they can take a concentrated program of study that is developmentally age appropriate - that grows with them as they grow in age and ablilities. Opportunities will be provided for AYAP students to partner with the USCAD program and familiarize themselves with the U of S undergraduate degree program. Among other learning events, students will also be involved in art shows and sales. AYAP is an ideal grounding for post-secondary certificate or degree studies in visual art.
